The FG700S by Yamaha is considered by many to be an entry level guitar but it still has the versatility, styling and ease of playing that will make it a welcome addition for any individual. This 6 stringed acoustic guitar has the easy playing design that invites people to test it out. Positive Points to Ponder

This Yamaha instrument weighs less than 8 pounds which is also a welcome feature for anyone who wants to use a guitar. Many guitars are much heavier and can be unwieldy to play, especially for students who are just beginning their musical journey. The Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar also has a very streamlined silhouette and measures a mere 43″x6″x21″. This compact design, coupled with the lighter weight makes it possible to carry this guitar about with ease. Appearance

The overall appearance of the Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar belies its affordable cost. Although you can purchase this guitar for less than $200, the features and composition make it look as though it is a much more expensive guitar model.

The top is made of solid sitka spruce which has a nice gleaming finish and a beautiful wood grain pattern. The fingerboard is made of richly colored rosewood and the pickguard is created with a tortoise shell look. The back and sides of the guitar are made of mahogany colored laminates. The inlay of the headstock adds to the polished and professional appearance of this instrument.

Sound Quality

This Yamaha guitar also gets high marks for tonal quality. The sound is mellow and well balanced and you find very little unwanted resonation at either end of the note scales. Some people have even gone as far as to compare the sound from this guitar with that of some models by the Martin company.

Negative Features

You do not receive any extras with this guitar. The Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar also does not have locking tuners which is a definite drawback. You may even find that there is a little excess glue between the guitar body and neckpiece, but these are essentially the only negative features to mention about the FG700S.

Let me show you what current owners have to say about it.

S. Quinn,

Excellent guitar, with excellent potential,

I got this guitar about a year ago as a birthday present from my girlfriend. Because ears are so subjective, we went to Guitar Center to try out a whole slew of makes and models. Pretty much anything they had in the sub-$500 range. I tried Martins, Fenders, Epiphones, Gibsons, Taylors, Ovations, Yamahas– you name it, I tried it. Most sounded pretty good, but you could tell they were budget guitars. Just no balance. Some had great deep tone but no treble. Others were very bright but had no bottom end. I was about ready to settle on a $350 Yamaha (which looked BEAUTIFUL) and had a decent balance, but then my girlfriend found this FG700S hiding behind some boxes. I played it and…WOW. Rich lows and bright highs. Needless to say, that’s the one I picked.
